SIGNED by Hayes in pencil on front endpaper. 1916 stated first edition in hardback case. Light wear and rubbing on edges, minor soiling; interior is very clean and tight. 224 pages, with photos, including frontis photo of Hayes, with his facsimile signature below. Anecdotes and stories of the telegraph business, with an occasional poem. Numerous full-page facsimiles of multiple autographs, from telegraph operators in specific towns. Hayes was an agent for Western Union, and was instrumental in bringing the telegraph to Portland, Oregon in 1882. Bookseller Inventory # 003767
