Folio. Wrappers. Edition limited to 100 copies, this copy inscribed by Raymond Lister, "To Anne Keynes with the best wishes of the translator 2.viii.98". "Stenochoreography, the system of dance notation invented by Arthur Saint-Léon, marks an important development in the evolution of recording the movements of the human body. Previous systems, such as that of [Raoul Auger] Feuillet, which had been used throughout the eighteenth century, recorded movements - mainly those of the legs and feet - by conventional signs, in plan. In Saint-Léon's system, positions are shown in elevation and (this is one if its most original points) as they are seen by the spectators" (translator's introduction). Seller Inventory # 33M100647
