About this Item
Undated, but circa 1923. 4pp. 8vo, paperclipped at one corner (mild rust mark). Apparently contemporary manuscript review, some 600 words with numerous corrections, written when Bentley was still at University College School, Hampstead, aged 16: the play opened at the Everyman Theatre, Hampstead, on 17 September 1923. "From his views as expressed in Outward Bound it is to be seen that Mr Vane is an upholder of the more advanced theories upon the subject of the hereafter. His treatment of the subject is calculated to attract by its simplicity and its clarity of expression and yet to attract also by its suspense and mystery . . . [T]o employ the words of J.H. Turner, I report with the force and veh[e]mence of my feeble personality that Mr. Vane has made Heaven and Hell an attractive propersition [sic]." The future cartoonist/illustrator/publisher started at the Heatherley School of Art in 1924. Seller Inventory # 33M100740
