(die Seiten 263-64 weiß) Erste Ausgabe in einem tadellos erhaltenen schönen Exemplar in dekorativem zeitgenössischem Maroquineinband. - "In München vollzog die Überleitung zum neuen Jahrhundert Johann Michael Mettenleiter (1765-1853), den man den bayerischen Chodowiecki nennt. Sein wichtigstes Werk ist A.Schreibers "Teutschland", das 1826 in Karlsruhe mit 24 Kupfern nach Mettenleiter erschien. Die zeitgenössische Kritik, nicht eben verwöhnt, war des Lobes voll über seine 'wahre, richtige Auffassung des historischen Moments, über seine treffliche Zusammenstellung, seine sprechenden Charaktere und durchaus geistreiche Behandlung im Geschmacke Chodowieckis'. Ein großer Teil von Mettenleiters Tätigkeit entfiel auf das Gebiet der neuerfundenen Lithographie", was sich in vorliegendem Werk in den vorzüglich ausgeführten Zwischentiteln zeigt (Rümann, Illustrierte Bücher, S. 293). Bode in Pohlmann, GeschichtsBilder S.272. - Der Autor Aloys Wilhelm Schreiber (1763-1841) Hauslehrer des Grafen von Westphalen, war ab 1802 Prof. der Aesthetik an der Universität Heidelberg und von 1813-26 hielt er als 'Hofhistoriograph' in Karlsruhe Vorlesungen über Geschichte, Ästhetik und Kunstgeschichte.
