Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This open access book analyses intellectual property codification and innovation governance in the development of six key industries in India and China. These industries are reflective of the innovation and economic development of the two economies, or of vital importance to them: the IT Industry; the film industry; the pharmaceutical industry; plant varieties and food security; the automobile industry; and peer production and the sharing economy. The analysis extends beyond the domain of IP law, and includes economics and policy analysis. The overarching concern that cuts through all chapters is an inquiry into why certain industries have developed in one country and not in the other, including: the role that state innovation policy and/or IP policy played in such development; the nature of the state innovation policy/IP policy; and whether such policy has been causal, facilitating, crippling, co-relational, or simply irrelevant. The book asks what India and China can learn from each other, and whether there is any possibility of synergy. The book provides a real-life understanding of how IP laws interact with innovation and economic development in the six selected economic sectors in China and India. The reader can also draw lessons from the success or failure of these sectors. 532 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book addresses women's changing role in and contributions to the Indian labour market. It explores how feminist theories and frameworks have changed over time and gradually been supplanted by new ones. The book explores the structural shift in women's employment from farm to non-farm jobs in services and industries, both theoretically and empirically. Further, it examines the steady rise of women in high skilled or 'new economy' sectors like information and communication technology, electronics and telecom; and in low skilled work such as domestic work, particularly in urban areas. It also scrutinizes how emerging sectors of the economy are experimenting with new forms of employment by changing the temporal (part-time work, flexible hours), spatial (location of work) and contractual (temporary contracts) dimensions. Beyond analysing the above-mentioned aspects, the book discusses perennial challenges such as patriarchy, socio-cultural norms and gender-based labour market inequalities across occupations as a 'glass ceiling' or 'sticky floor'. One of the book's most important contributions is inclusion ofdetailed labour market statistics for women, with long-term trends and patterns, as well as comparisons with other countries and regions. In closing, the book highlights women's participation in economic and non-economic activities and related quantification issues, i.e. the invisibility of women's work, which remains a highly contentious aspect. Given its content, the book offers a valuable asset for a broad readership including academics, NGOs, and policymakers.'The subject of low work participation rates for women has been of concern to economists, gender specialists and policy makers for decades. This book makes an important contributionin understanding the role of women in development and identifies some new policydirections that could be initiated to facilitate greater employment of women.'- Rohini Nayyar, Former Principal Adviser, Yojana Aayog, Government of India'This book is timely and extremely relevant to the academic and policy debates in India.Given the puzzle of low and declining female labour force participation, it is critical to focuson where women work, beyond a supply-side perspective. In addition, efforts are needed tobetter measure women's work, which is typically underreported. In both these dimensions, this book makes an important contribution, which will be valuable for both academics andpolicymakers.'- Sher Verick, Employment Policy and Analysis Programme (EPAP) of the International Training Centre (ITC), International Labour Organization'This book critically examines both theoretically and empirically the dynamics of changes inwomen's participation in and contribution to the fast-transforming Indian labour market. Theaspects covered include the essential issue of how the new forms of employment areimpacting temporal, spatial and contractual dimensions. An excellent and compulsory readfor academicians and policy-makers involved in gender as well as labour economics.'- Ritu Dewan, Former President, Indian Association for Women's Studies; Former Director & Professor, Dept. of Economics, University of Mumbai'The book is a required addition to the exiting literature on women's work and employmentfor its comprehensive and distinctive approach. It is a unique blend of macro and micro levelperspectives and issues capturing statistics.' 200 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The book focuses on how to implement discrete wavelet transform methods in order to solve problems of reaction-diffusion equations and fractional-order differential equations that arise when modelling real physical phenomena. It explores the analytical and numerical approximate solutions obtained by wavelet methods for both classical and fractional-order differential equations; provides comprehensive information on the conceptual basis of wavelet theory and its applications; and strikes a sensible balance between mathematical rigour and the practical applications of wavelet theory. The book is divided into 11 chapters, the first three of which are devoted to the mathematical foundations and basics of wavelet theory. The remaining chapters provide wavelet-based numerical methods for linear, nonlinear, and fractional reaction-diffusion problems. Given its scope and format, the book is ideally suited as a text for undergraduate and graduate students ofmathematics and engineering. 200 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book presents the findings of a case study conducted in a Maori medium school where a space was created for Putaiao (Western science) teaching and learning from year 1 to 13. Science is currently taught in Te Reo Maori in primary school and in English in secondary school, and evidence suggests that students are engaging in science education, learning to investigate, and achieving in science. In New Zealand, most students attend English medium state schools; however, approximately 15% of indegenous students attend Maori medium schools. These schools are underpinned with Kura Kaupapa Maori philosophy, which is culturally specific to Maori and aims to revitalise the Maori language, and Maori knowledge and culture. Maori students' engagement and achievement continues to be a challenge for both mainstream and Maori medium schools, teachers and students due to lack of access to science teachers who can teach in Te Reo Maori. School leaders and whanau (families) believed that by year 9 (age 13) their students had developed their identity as Maori, and were proficient in Te Reo Maori. They wanted their students to have the option to learn science, experience success and have the choice to conitnue in science, so they made the difficult decision for science to be taught in English in secondary school. The book discusses how teachers in indigenous schools, who have extensive knowledge of culture and context specific pedagogies, can gain confidence to teach science through collaboration with and support from researchers with whom they have developed strong professional relationships. 104 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book presents four approaches to jointly training bidirectional neural machine translation (NMT) models. First, in order to improve the accuracy of the attention mechanism, it proposes an agreement-based joint training approach to help the two complementary models agree on word alignment matrices for the same training data. Second, it presents a semi-supervised approach that uses an autoencoder to reconstruct monolingual corpora, so as to incorporate these corpora into neural machine translation. It then introduces a joint training algorithm for pivot-based neural machine translation, which can be used to mitigate the data scarcity problem. Lastly it describes an end-to-end bidirectional NMT model to connect the source-to-target and target-to-source translation models, allowing the interaction of parameters between these two directional models. 92 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book introduces recent advances in the deterministic design of photonic structures, which overcome the current limitation in conventional disordered materials. It develops new concepts for disordered photonics inspired by notions in quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, mathematics and network theory, such as isospectrality, supersymmetry, graph network, small-world, de Broglie-Bohm theory, and parity-time symmetry. The multidisciplinary approach based on the core concepts of isospectrality (Chapter 2) and metadisorder (Chapter 3) offers a new perspective on the design methodology in photonics and in general disordered structures toward top-down designs of future photonic applications: perfect bandgap with strong modal localization, switching of random waves for binary and fuzzy logics, photonic analogy of graph networks, interdimensional signal transport, robust wave functions in disordered structures, and a novel method of energy storage and phase trapping based on Bohmian photonics. This book will provide new design criteria for physicists and engineers in photonics, and inspirations for researchers in other fields. 96 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book deals with the out-migration from the UNESCO designated Sundarban Biosphere Reserve in India. It focuses on the question whether out-migration is a consequence of environmental change or livelihood issues and development deficit. It investigates the processes of migration from a broad spectrum, exploring a wide range of economic, social, and demographic factors along with environmental stressors. The processes of migration studied and empirically illustrated include migration stream, migration pattern, reasons for migration, the nexus between migration and social network, aspiration and different human, economic and physical capital. The book adopts a modelistic approach called the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) to investigate whether migration from Sundarban is an environmental migration or not. In addition it uses the risk perception approach of people's cognition or 'affective imagery' to examine the degree of perceived environmental risk in the means of living, especially farming and fishing, of the islanders of Sundarban. The book will be of interest to researchers and academicians in the areas of migration studies, geography, political science, sociology and economics. 196 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book explores the lived experiences of African immigrants in Australia, and the way they are represented in the media. By delving into the group's everyday lives, the book exposes the roles that media and social perceptions play in the production and regulation of diasporic identities. Rather than being presented as objects of mediated representations, this book positions African immigrants in Australia as empowered subjects. The book employs inclusive research methods that make African immigrants active participants in the research, rather than passive objects. This is achieved through an expanded demographic study, a snapshot survey, and by taking a closer look at the lives of Africans in Australia through digital oral histories. This approach allows the group to have a say on how they feel they are positioned in society, on what space they are offered, and on how this affects their lives. 204 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Gödel's true-but-unprovable sentence from the first incompleteness theorem is purely logical in nature, i.e. not mathematically natural or interesting. An interesting problem is to find mathematically natural and interesting statements that are similarly unprovable. A lot of research has since been done in this direction, most notably by Harvey Friedman. A lot of examples of concrete incompleteness with real mathematical content have been found to date. This brief contributes to Harvey Friedman's research program on concrete incompleteness for higher-order arithmetic and gives a specific example of concrete mathematical theorems which is expressible in second-order arithmetic but the minimal system in higher-order arithmetic to prove it is fourth-order arithmetic. This book first examines the following foundational question: are all theorems in classic mathematics expressible in second-order arithmetic provable in second-order arithmetic The author gives a counterexample for this question and isolates this counterexample from the Martin-Harrington Theorem in set theory. It shows that the statement 'Harrington's principle implies zero sharp' is not provable in second-order arithmetic. This book further examines what is the minimal system in higher-order arithmetic to prove the theorem 'Harrington's principle implies zero sharp' and shows that it is neither provable in second-order arithmetic or third-order arithmetic, but provable in fourth-order arithmetic. The book also examines the large cardinal strength of Harrington's principle and its strengthening over second-order arithmetic and third-order arithmetic. 136 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This volume contains the notes originally made by Kenkichi Iwasawa in his own handwriting for his lecture course at Princeton University in 1964. These notes give a beautiful and completely detailed account of the adelic approach to Hecke's L -functions attached to any number field, including the proof of analytic continuation, the functional equation of these L -functions, and the class number formula arising from the Dedekind zeta function for a general number field. This adelic approach was discovered independently by Iwasawa and Tate around 1950 and marked the beginning of the whole modern adelic approach to automorphic forms and L -series. While Tate's thesis at Princeton in 1950 was finally published in 1967 in the volume Algebraic Number Theory , edited by Cassels and Frohlich, no detailed account of Iwasawa's work has been published until now, and this volume is intended to fill the gap in the literature of one of the key areas of modern number theory. In the final chapter, Iwasawa elegantly explains some important classical results, such as the distribution of prime ideals and the class number formulae for cyclotomic fields. 108 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The discourse on migration outcomes in the West has largely been dominated by issues of integration, but it is more relevant to view immigration in non-Western societies in relation to practices of exclusion and inclusion. Exclusion refers to a situation in which individuals and groups are usually denied access to the goods, services, activities and resources associated with citizenship. However, this approach has been criticised in relation to gender issues, which are very relevant to the situation of migrants. The authors in this volume address this criticism. Furthermore, when framed within a North-South discourse, it may be potentially ethnocentric to assume that the experience of exclusion is cross-culturally uniform. Indeed, work on migration issues has invariably been conducted within such a discourse. The contributors go beyond this binary discourse of 'exclusion versus inclusion' which has dominated migration research. They examine the situation of migrants in the Middle East and Asia as one that encompasses both exclusion and inclusion, addressing related concepts of empowerment, ethnocracy, the feminisation of migration and gendered geographies of power, liberal constraint and multiculturalism, individual agency, migrant-friendly discourses, spaces of emancipation and spaces of insecurity. The book highlights current research in the Arab Gulf states, and examines multiculturalism in Asia more broadly. It will be of particular interest to students and researchers in international labour migration studies in the Middle East and Asia. 220 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book discusses nuclear events that may become imminent threats to the fabric of our society, and elucidates strategies for preventing these threats or mitigating their adverse effects. It addresses multidisciplinary aspects of various nuclear emergencies, including nuclear accidents, terror attacks involving nuclear materials, illicit trafficking of nuclear materials, and problems related to nuclear forensics and strikes with nuclear weapons/warheads.Very often, nuclear emergencies are only discussed within certain, specific communities. However, this volume brings together experts from various fields to provide a more holistic approach to the problem. Physical, chemical, environmental, social, and medical scientists, together with representatives from the media and authorities, present their views on and strategies for events that cause fear and anxiety among the public - an aspect that can be even more threatening than the direct health effects. The book offers a valuable guide for nuclear scientists, such as radioecologists, health physicists, radioanalytical scientists and nuclear engineers, as well as decision-makers and national/international authorities. 248 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book addresses the persistence of meat consumption and the use of animals as food in spite of significant challenges to their environmental and ethical legitimacy. Drawing on Foucault's regime of power/knowledge/pleasure, and theorizations of the gaze, it identifies what contributes to the persistent edibility of 'food' animals even, and particularly, as this edibility is increasingly critiqued. Beginning with the question of how animals, and their bodies, are variously mapped by humans according to their use value, it gradually unpacks the roots of our domination of 'food' animals - a domination distinguished by the literal embodiment of the 'other'. The logics of this embodied domination are approached in three inter-related parts that explore, respectively, how knowledge, sensory and emotional associations, and visibility work together to render animal's bodies as edible flesh. The book concludes by exploring how to more effectively challenge the 'entitled gaze' that maintains 'food' animals as persistently edible. 376 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book presents examples of and the latest simulation studies on artificial societies and populations, highlighting innovative implementations of various models of artificial societies and populations using a new, C++-related simulation tool. It demonstrates that the prey-predator models-including spatial distribution, moving patterns, limited renewable food, fear, gregarious (herd) instinct, clustering, epidemics, and competition-are more complex than other publications have suggested, and highlights the great discrepancy between agent-based and conventional continuous models. The book also discusses the modeling and simulation of self-organization and interactions between organizations, including terror organizations, offering fascinating insights into organizational dynamics. The book provides a broad range of examples and comparisons with the classical dynamics approach, showing readers how to construct models of complex systems. It starts with descriptions of the behavior of interacting individuals and also includes important information on the macro-behavior of the whole system. 164 pp. Englisch.
