Published by [ENGLISH: - - - Woodcut facsimile by Lars Roberg, 1706, of one page from the Gothic Manuscript "Codex Argenteus", preserved in Uppsala University Library. Rare 20th century impression of Roberg's woodblock, which is still preserved in the Diocesan Library, Linköping. The woodcut was ordered by Eric Benzelius jr. in 1706 to advertise his new edition, which appeared only after his death, in 1750. The Codex Argenteus contains the Gospels in the 4th-century Gothic translation of Bishop Wulfila / Ulphilas. The codex is the most important manuscript preserved in a Swedish library, and the main source for the Gothic language. It was written on purple vellum c. 500 AD, presumably at Ravenna. A complete, very advanced photographic facsimile of the m, 1750
