La educación del des-artista es hoy un texto más vigente que nunca, un inusitado manual para creadores donde el Arte y su Historia son desactivados por una mirada crítica, una conciencia estética y una práctica artística al servicio de la vida. Allan Kaprow nació en Atlantic City, New Jersey. Empezó como pintor interesado en el expresionismo abstracto (Pollock), el collage, etc. En 1947-1948, estando en la escuela de pintura de Hans Hofmann, comenzó a desarrollar lo que se ha denominado una "pintura expresiva", basada en paisajes y figuras humanas reales, y que una década después entró en la esfera mundial con el nombre de happenings. Kaprow en los años cincuenta se dedicó a estudios de composición musical con John Cage en Manhattan. Bajo la influencia de Cage creó obras ambientales en las que requería la participación de la audiencia.
