After doctoral and graduate work at Berkeley's University of California, The Catholic University in Washington, DC, and the Lateran University in Rome, he published books on Church-State relationships, the role of teachers in society, the threat to privacy in technology, and the morality of the use of recombinant DNA. He also contributed articles to the World Book, Catholic and Atheism encyclopedias.
