Covers are worn, bumped and scuffed, but all bound securely. Text block is very good overall - the first few pages have some damp staining, but otherwise text is mainly clean and bright throughout, with occasional lightly stained page. A couple of coloured pencil annotations. Top edge with some dust toning. Text in English. Title + 2pp Contents + 516pp. Dimensions: Approximately 208mm high x 130mm wide x 38mm deep. Printed dedication to Henry, Prince Of Wales to the rear of the half title page. 602 p.p. Ownership label ( Charles Hood ) inside front board. Bound in brown half leather with five raised bands to the spine. Title in gilt to the second compartment. Marbled boards. Leather now somewhat scuffed with some small cracks partic. to head of spine though only superficial loss. Board corners a little bumped and frayed. Very slight age fray to edge of boards and one small ( 3 cm ) splash stain to rear board. Internally some browning and foxing mainly confined to the prelims, whilst main text remains bright and clear. Page edges marbled ( red speckle ). Frontis portrait of the author engraved by J. Gellatly. The binding remains firm and square. An interesting early copy in good condition for age 170+ years. Size: 6" By 9".
