Manuscript / Paper Collectible
Carbon typescript Draft script for the 1941 Swedish play, "Ett Spel om en Wag som till Himla bar," by Rune Lindstrom. German translation, circa 1940s. The play would be the basis for Alf Sjoberg's 1942 Swedish film, "Himlaspelet," or the English title, "The Heavenly Play." Brief annotations throughout in manuscript ink. Lindstrom's play has been performed in Sweden since 1941, remaining a vital part of Swedish cultural heritage. The story follows Mats Ersson (played by Lindstrom in the film), who marries his beloved Marit, When the plague comes to the neighborhood, Marit is accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. Confused, Mats wonders how God could let it happen and decides to wander up to heaven to ask God himself. Blue wrappers, with paper title label on the front wrapper. Title page present, undated, noted as copy No. 1011, with credits for playwright Lindstrom and translator Magnus. 49 leaves, with last page of text numbered 52. Carbon typescript on onionskin stock. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper and endpapers detached, bound with string.
