About this Item
Printer's corrected page proofs. 54 leaves, printed rectos only (introduction, pp. 5-15; chronology, pp. 16-17; letters, pp. 19-59), 38 of them bearing Alan Anderson's manuscript proof corrections. Lacking the title-page and colophon page. The edition paginated 59, [1]pp., and was limited to 150 numbered copies. The last of Sir Angus Fraser's three Borrow pamphlets for the Tragara Press (the first, A Journey to Eastern Europe in 1844: (thirteen letters), appeared in 1981, the second, Letters to John Hasfeld, 1835-1839, in 1982). Of all Borrow's friends, John Hasfeld was "one of the few, the very few, who never aroused his serious displeasure". These letters, mostly written from Oulton, in Suffolk, cover the first years of Borrow's marriage, during which he published The Zincali and The Bible in Spain. Seller Inventory # 31M100029
