About this Item
First separate edition. Free endpapers slightly browned, but a nice firm copy; edition limited to 250 copies. "I come from Scotland to plead against eminent Germans, Englishmen, and Scotsmen for a Scottish poet, and to maintain his claim to translations some of which were directly part of the educative processes fitting him to produce his great original historical chanson de geste. A national heirloom was added to the treasury of Scotland when John Barbour [c1330-1395], Archdeacon of Aberdeen, completed under Robert II, the first of the Stewart kings, his poem of The Bruce." Dedicated to W.P. Ker, "FRIEND CRITIC AND STUDENT OF ROMANCE". Seller Inventory # S100015
