Flexible Clothcovers. Condition: Good-. 174 pp + 48 pp ("Murray's Handbook Advertiser, 1904-1905"), 6 3/4" H. Red cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Title page states "Fifth Edition" and below the publisher information, with the date 1893, "With Index and Directory Revised to 1902". All maps, including one in the rear pocket, are present. Includes an Introduction (Extent and History / Antiquities / Products and Manuacturers / Geology and Traveller's View / Main Roads / Railway Systems / Skeleton Tour / Places of Interest / An Artistic and Antiquarian Tour). Describes a variety of routes, radiating out from London, Hastings, "Tonbridge" Wells, Brighton, Horsham and Godalming, plus an Index. The title for the advertising section continues: "Containing Useful Information for Travellers, Railway and Steamboat Companies, Hotels and Miscellaneous Advertisements." Interior - very light browning to pages except 'advertiser' pages which have moderate browning, splits in paper in inside hinges and book is lightly cracked at two places but holding firmly, small crease at top corner of approx. pages 113 to 124. Exterior - light edge wear to covers, moderate wear and wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, heavy crease at top corner of front cover - migrates into pages up to page 20, light soiling and a few small air bubbles on covers, liquid stain and fading at top corner of front cover and small liquid mark at bottom of cover, browning to edges of text block.
