Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into a often-overlooked aspect of the American Revolution: the profound influence of religion and the clergy. It challenges the conventional historical narratives that primarily focus on political and military strategies, arguing that the religious fervor of the time played a pivotal role in shaping the course of the revolution, particularly in New England. The author meticulously examines the sermons, addresses, and prayers of clergymen, highlighting their role as passionate advocates for liberty and resistors of oppression. The book sheds light on how these religious leaders instilled in their congregations a deep understanding of natural rights, the principles of just governance, and the sanctity of compacts, effectively preparing the populace for the fight for independence. Beyond individual acts of patriotism, this book explores the systematic influence of the clergy, especially through annual election sermons delivered before government officials. These sermons, often published and widely disseminated, served as powerful platforms for disseminating ideas about liberty and resistance, shaping public opinion and galvanizing support for the revolutionary cause. By illuminating the often-unseen religious dimension of the American Revolution, this book offers a fresh perspective on this pivotal period in history, emphasizing the potent force of faith and morality in shaping the destiny of nations. Seller: Liberty Bell Publications, York, SC, U.S.A.
Paperback. Condition: As New. Unread and unopened! Stapled. 112pp. The ministers of the Gospel 200 years ago prepared the colonies for the struggle for independence. It was their vigorous preaching and active participation in the war itself that gave the religious sanction and inspiration for the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. This history, written by Mr. Headley in 1864 before the Centennial, should provide to the churches of the country on this 200th anniversary a blessed resurgence of Christian doctrine and faith. What our people believed and did 200 years ago they did because God is the Author of liberty, and to attain a free country. This is the message which must be heard again today. "For ever, 0 Lord, thy word is settled in heaven." It was indeed the fulfillment of the glorious righteousness of Scripture that led them to place on the Liberty Bell, Leviticus 25:10: "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof," and on the coins of the new republic, "In God we trust." George Washington's statue stands before Independence Hall today, with his right hand extended down and his live fingers resting on the Holy Scriptures. The Bell itself, when placed in the Hall 25 years earlier, had been brought over from England for the 50th Anniversary of William Penn's establishing of Pennsylvania. The book by Mr. Headley was originally published by Charles Scribner, New York. These writings are taken from the book and are being distributed in celebration of the Bicentennial by the 20th Century Reformation Hour Broadcast, whose headquarters arc in Collingswood, N. J. These messages are of special significance, first because they counteract the neutralizing preaching of today that tells Christians that they should not become involved in such matters, and second, because of the Communist drive for revolution, which would use the revolution for independence in their drive for a revolution for a socialist America. Both of these emphases abroad in the land today arc counteracted by the faithfulness of these great prophets, who properly expounded the Word of God to the people. "Through faith they subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness.âÂÂ. Seller Inventory # 993512
