Half leather, marbled boards, top edge gilt. Covers somewhat worn. With the visiting-card book-label of Sir Arthur (later Lord) Hobhouse; inscribed "Arthur Hobhouse from CO Goodford. April. 1837"; numerous pencil notes in the text. Loosely inserted an autograph letter signed to "Dear Mr Hobhouse", 1p. 8vo, Wimbledon, 28 November n.y., from Lillian Holland (first cousin once removed of the novelist Mrs Gaskell), offering "a card for some music at St Paul's, Spohr's Last Judgement". Hobhouse left Eton in 1837; Charles Old Goodford was a master there, later Head Master and finally Provost. Seller Inventory # 23M100002
