Synopsis
La démographie des minorités traite d'un sujet extrêmement complexe. Les minorités sont multiples et les relations qu'elles entretiennent avec leur majorité sont tout aussi diverses et toujours susceptibles de changer. Les études rassemblées dans ce volume présentent différents groupes minoritaires dans leur contexte politique et culturel et développent avec soin les modes de définition et leurs influences. Les auteurs traitent aussi des évolutions: d'une part, la reproduction de sous-populations à partir de comportements démographiques qui sont des héritages culturels, plus ou moins altérés par des contraintes qui sont des construits politiques; d'autre part, la démographie de l'intégration, de la mixité et des transformations identitaires. Minority demography deals with an extremely complex subject. Minorities are highly diverse in size and characteristics and the relations of a minority with its respective majority are also varying and controversial. The contributions to this volume analyse various minorities in their cultural and political settings and offer new interpretations of definitions and their impact. The contributors also deal with evolutions: reproduction of sub-populations through demographic behaviours culturally transmitted but altered by politically constructed constraints; demography of integration, mixing and identity changes.

About the Author
Les responsables de la publication: Guy Brunet est professeur de démographie et d'histoire des populations à l'Université Lyon 2. Ses publications récentes portent sur les patronymes et l'histoire sociale de la famille.
Michel Oris est professeur de démographie historique et histoire sociale à l'Université de Genève. Ses publications récentes portent sur la démographie familiale dans une perspective interdisciplinaire.
Alain Bideau est Directeur de Recherche au CNRS (Lyon) et président de la Société de Démographie historique. Professeur invité à Montréal et à Curitiba, il travaille sur la France et le Brésil.
The Editors: Guy Brunet is professor of demography and population history at the University Lyon 2. His recent publications concern the frequency and the history of surnames and social history of the family.
Michel Oris is professor of population and social history at the University of Geneva. His publications and research explore family demography in an interdisciplinary perspective.
Alain Bideau is Directeur de Recherche au CNRS (Lyon) and Chair of the Société de Démographie Historique (Paris). He has been visiting professor at the Universities of Montreal (Canada) and Curitiba (Brazil). He currently works on France and on Brazil.
