Over a span of five years, Alÿs walked the streets of London, evolving Seven Walks for Artangel, a project which delved into the everyday rituals and habits of the metropolis. The walks were enacted in different parts of the city – Hyde Park, the City of London, the National Portrait Gallery, the streets close to Regents Park. Three of the walks – Guards, The Nightwatch and Railings – were made with Alÿs’s long-term collaborator Rafael Ortega. The ensuing films, videos, paintings and drawings were presented together in Alÿs’s first major public presentation in Britain, and continue to be presented internationally. National Portrait Gallery exhibition 2005 and subsequently at other venues.A substantial book published by Artangel. No DJ. Pictorial end pages. Multiple illustrations in line and colour. Varied print with manual addenda –even down to a coffee cup stain. This book is in very good condition with one reservation – there are several pages where there has been dog-earing of one of the corners. Good binding and no additional marks. Included is a colour copy of a poster advertising the exhibition.

Synopsis:
Through conversation, essays, photos, and drawings, this book documents and explores Francis Alys' new project Seven Walks. Over the past five years, Francis Alys has been walking the streets of London, evolving an ambitious new project - Seven Walks - for Artangel. The walks are enacted in different parts of the city - Hyde Park, the City of London, the National Portrait Gallery, and the streets close to Regents Park. Involving a diverse range of collaborators from 64 Coldstream Guards to London commuters, Alys delves into the everyday rituals and habits of the metropolis. The ensuing films, videos, paintings, and drawings are presented together in Alys' first major public presentation in Britain. It includes a conversation between James Lingwood and Francis Alys. It is published to accompany the exhibition Seven Walks at 21 Portman Square, London, and the National Portrait Gallery, 28 September - 20 November 2005.
