The author survived thirty years as a policeman in Birmingham without getting into too much trouble or causing any great harm before he retired to the English Lake District, where he became a self-employed gardener and adult education tutor. He still lives in Cumbria with his wife Margaret. His sons, John and Michael, mentioned in the book, are a police officer and an Immigration officer respectively. His hobbies include fell walking and playing golf badly. This is his first book.
