Lecture Notes: Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics is the core text for medical students, junior doctors, students in nursing, dentistry and pharmacy, general practitioners and allied health professionals who want a concise introduction to the subject of clinical pharmacology and the latest information on new and withdrawn drugs.
This book provides the reader with all the necessary information to achieve a thorough understanding of how drugs work, their interaction with the body in health and disease, and how to use these drugs appropriately in clinical situations.
Now entering its seventh edition, Lecture Notes: Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics maintains the successful formula of the previous editions, bridging the gap between laboratory science and the bedside, and providing an easy–to–use format suitable for quick reference or in–depth study.

"An exceptionally comprehensive revision aid, which covers all aspects of prescribing from the principles to its practical aspects, taking a systems–based approach to cover everything you need to know." Medical Student, Cambridge
“This is a very good book, which not only gives you an overview of clinical pharmacology but the depth to have a safe–working knowledge of it.” Medical Student, Barts and the London
“This is an excellent textbook which can be used in a jam, to help you cover the most important drugs and clinical scenarios in a relatively short amount of time. It’s perfect for your exams following clinical placements where your consultants expect you to know the basics of a broad variety of drug classifications, or as a quick leg up on important drugs before facing the hospitals.” Medical Student, University College, Dublin
“This is a very effective and easy to use resource that can firstly introduce you to the field of clinical pharmacology. Following that, it could be useful to revise from before rotations on the various systems.” Medical Student, GKT
Lecture Notes in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics is a beautifully written textbook and is a must for medical students. It is a well laid out textbook that tells you all you need to know about pharmacology to get through medical school or any other course that has a basis in pharmacology. [...] I only wish I had known of this book when I was studying Pharmacology.” Medical Student, Manchester University
"A concise book about modern pharmacology. It gives a good introduction to each subject and explains the relevant pathophysiology of each condition. The authors use a systematic approach to diseases. This helps to clarify underlying concepts before you are bombarded with drug classes and names. Overall, this is a very clinically oriented book that I might use to revise for my finals." Northwing, Sheffield Medical Students′ Magazine
Lecture Notes: Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics aims to give students a clear understanding of the principles of the pathophysiology of diseases, the molecular mechanisms of drug action in humans, and an appreciation of drug therapy in the context of overall health care so that they will know how and when to use drugs in clinical practice.
This new edition is fully updated to include the latest drug treatments available. It includes information on drugs used in special situations such as during pregnancy and labour, and those used for treating children. More information is now included on guidelines and formularies to show how these fit into clinical practice. This edition also follows the latest Lecture Notes series text design.
Whilst the basic science of pharmacology is usually taught in the first two years of medical school, clinical pharmacology, prescribing in practice, is taught at medical schools during attachments. Some schools will also back this up with formal teaching of the subject, but others leave students to teach themselves beyond what is taught in the wards. It is also a skill that junior doctors continue to learn and refine, and the book should continue to be of use after medical school into the house–officer years.
