Review:
"The second edition of Understanding Nonprofit Organizations will be applauded by students, instructors, and practitioners...This eagerly anticipated new edition is a major revision and adds many recent articles by key scholars and fresh new topics required for anyone wishing to understand this fascinating dynamic sector...[W]ill be a standard assigned text for nonprofit courses and should be found on practitioners' 'must read' lists." --Russell A. Cargo, Ph.D., principal, Third Sector Services, LLC, and senior fellow at the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership, University of Missouri at Kansas City "A welcome contribution to the literature of the nonprofit sector...[that] explains in useful terms what we need to know about nonprofit organizations, how they function, and how they can effectively be led and managed. [The] chapters have been written by leading scholars and professionals, and they are organized and presented in ways that bring important clarity to the management of this new world of nonprofit organizations. We are fortunate to have this valuable resource to inform our work in these exciting times." --David O. Renz (from the foreword) "[The Nature of the Nonprofit Sector and Understand Nonprofit Organizations] work well together and are valuable resources that will help students, professionals, and scholars alike explore and understand the external and internal environments of nonprofit organizations. Overall, the volumes reach the editors' goals of presenting a story of the nonprofit sector that is readable and focuses on the central ideas that are important for students and professionals to grasp. These books are now part of my 'go-to' books as an instructor for macro-level social work courses and as a cofounder and community organizer working with various stakeholder on a new social service initiative." --Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly
