I resigned from my job as a clinical psychologist in the Health Service - at the end of 1989 - in order to write Living Magically. I had been on a spiritual path for nearly twenty years, but a mystical experience shifted me in minutes into 'knowing' what I had merely believed in before. I suddenly knew that anything was possible, that life was a dream that we construct, day by day - and that if we don't like the dream we are creating, we can change it. As a clinical psychologist, I wanted practical tools and ideas which I could use in my everyday life - yet so many mystical books were either vague and esoteric or over-simplistic and unhelpful. I wrote Living Magically in an attempt to make metaphysical ideas as practical and down-to-earth as possible. The ideas in it belong mostly to the ancient wisdom, yet still feel as fresh and life-changing to me now as they did then - and I'm still full of wonder at the magical nature of life on earth. The book opens with how mysticism and new science are moving together, and draws upon channelled sources and ancient wisdom as well as modern psychology.
