Synopsis
Sheila Paine's previous journey in search of this elusive talismanic triangle had been frustrating. No neat logic seemed to exist to explain why the amulet turned up where it did and was missing where she might have expected to find it. Her new travels begin in a Himalayan valley, take her through the turbulent lands of the disintegrating ex-Soviet Union and end on the Greek island of Karpathos in the Dodecanese, where the embroidered Afghan amulet she is seeking is still worn by women on the island to ward off evil spirits.

About the Author
Sheila Paine is a linguist by training but has devoted much of her life to travelling in order to record embroidery traditions before they disappear. She has been runner-up in The Sunday Times and winner of The Independent's travel writing contests;and as a result of these travels she wrote The Afghan Amulet: Travels from the Hindu Kush to Razgrad, published in hardback in 1994 and paperback 1995. She lives in Oxfordshire.
