Synopsis

Ex-cop Dennis Milne is intent on revenge.

His best friend has been brutally executed, and Milne wants to know who did it - and why.

But London is a dangerous place, especially for a man like Milne.

Because although his former colleagues don't know he's back in town, it soon becomes clear there are people who do. And that they'll stop at nothing to get him out of the way.

From the beaches of the Philippines to the mean streets of London, a hunt for justice becomes a terrifying battle for survival.

Review

"Simon Kernick may be a new kid on the block but he certainly knows how to crank up the suspense and deliver a kick in the gut when it's needed. A Good Day To Die is a terrific novel. Put this one at the top of your list; it will keep you up well into the night" (Peter Robinson)

"A Good Day To Die is everything we have come to expect from Kernick - one of the best young crime writers to have emerged in the past five years. It's a fast-paced yet deeply moral thriller with a thoughtful protagonist who never mistakes himself for a hero" (Laura Lippman)

"Kernick is excellent at capturing the mean streets where crack deals go down and tourists don't linger" (Daily Mail)

"Kernick has produced a first-rate series of contemporary hard-bolied London thrillers, with ... a sympathetic character in Milne" (Sunday Telegraph)

"Simon Kernick writes with his foot pressed hard on the pedal. Hang on tight!" (Harlan Coben)

From the Publisher

This is Simon's fourth novel, originally published in 2005, and as Amazon reviewers have noted, a return to Dennis Milne. I think of it as a sort of 'What Dennis did next', and I know Simon does too.In fact, what happens to Dennis after this - and what he did before the first novel, The Business of Dying, to make him into an assassin - is something that Simon thinks about a lot. For the prequel to The Business of Dying, I'm afraid you will just have to watch this space. Another Dennis novel is planned, although its publications may be some way off.

We reissued The Business of Dying and A Good Day to Die because we knew fans were finding it difficult to get hold of the books, especially in bookshops. To re-publish them with the now established Kernick-look covers seemed to us the best way of addressing this. I hope you enjoy reading A Good Day to Die as much as I did when the manuscript first landed on my desk four years ago!
