Methylenediphenyl diisocyanate[MDI] and toluene diisocyanate [TDI] are chemicals produced at a total rate of about four million tonnes per annum. They are reactive intermediates employed in the production of polyurethanes and other polymers which are used in a wide diversity of applications involving many thousands of workers worldwide.

The safe handling of MDI and TDI requires close attention to working practices in their transportation, storage, use and disposal.
