This text book has been revised and updated to cover the new syllabuses for GCSE Chemistry introduced after the implementation of the National Curriculum. The book looks into the part chemistry plays in people's lives, in industry and society, explaining principles and problems. Questions on every page and the end of every section help consolidate the learning process. A new activities section has been added to the end of every section as well. The new material is: nitrogen and its compounds, mineral chemistry, sulphur and its components, industrial processes, organic chemistry, the Earth's resources, the Earth and its atmosphere.

"Comprehensive content. Excellent presentation with good use of visuals." (T R Read, Finchley Catholic High School, London 2002-09-10)
Each double page spread contains a series of questions to test the content of the spread. The questions are varied and include discussion questions, research, planning of experimental procedures and consolidation of prior learning. The questions clearly reflect the fact that the book is aimed at higher tier pupils and provide excellent extension material.
At the end of each section are series of activities. Again the activities are interesting and varied, consisting of comprehension exercises and excellent ICT activities...
My pupils' reactions to the book was very favourable. In particular they liked the use of colour to highlight the questions and the high quality diagrams...
Overall I think this is an excellent book for higher tier pupils; in particular the questions and activities are first class. (School Science Review 2003-09-01)
The content is well spread out, with plenty of coloured illustrations and a summary at the end of each section. I really liked the frequent boxed study questions, which can be used to provide homework, and the range of activities for each section...
The book is good value for money and fans of previous editions will like it. (Education in Chemistry 2004-07-01)
Graham Hill is a well-established author, and was until recently a headteacher in Buckinghamshire.
