Excerpt from Les Problèmes de l'Esthétique Contemporaine

This book explores the principles underpinning the sensation of beauty, investigating whether the beautiful is inherently opposed to the useful, practical, or desirable. The author posits that both beauty and ugliness exist on a spectrum and relies on evolutionary psychology to support the idea that our perception of beauty is directly influenced by our biology and our need to survive. Through examining elements of aesthetics like symmetry, proportion, color, rhythm, and balance, this book presents a nuanced argument that beauty can and does exist in the mundane if we only shift our perspectives.
