Synopsis

Separated recently from an ill tempered and wife who only nagged him for the past 13 years, rich businessman Mohan Kumar, chooses to give his life a new meaning. Kumar, after the end of each fling and before the beginning of the next, finds comfort in the seasoned charms of his obedient maid Dhanno and in memories of his past lovers. He is especially haunted by the American Jessica Browne, to whom he surrendered his virginity and Yasmeem Wanchoo, an older Pakistani woman. Ace writer Khushwant Singh writes about a seemingly endless celebration of passion, love and sex in The Company of Women. The book borders on electric eroticism but never transcends into soft porn. The book is available in paperback and was published in 2000.

The common perception among people regarding this book is that in it the author just keeps on narrating the sexual encounters and nothing else. This is not the case. There are a variety of emotions other than sex which the protagonist goes through and they have been beautifully expressed by the author. But, yes it is an erotic novel by a person who at the time of writing it was in his eighties! --By SiSwa on 8 May 2015

About the Author:

Khushwant Singh is Indias best known writer and columnist. He has been founder editor of Yojana and editor of the Illustrated Weekly of India, the National Herald and the Hindustan Times. He is the author of classics such as Train to Pakistan, I Shall Not Hear the Nightingale and Delhi. His latest novel, The Sunset Club, written when he was 95, was published by Penguin Books in 2010. His nonfiction includes the classic two volume A History of the Sikhs, a number of translations and works on Sikh religion and culture, Delhi, nature, current affairs and Urdu poetry. His autobiography, Truth, Love and a Little Malice, was published by Penguin Books in 2002.
