About the Author:

Leszek Kolakowski was expelled from the Polish Communist Party in 1966, and from his teaching post at the University of Warsaw in 1968. He was later professor of philosophy at the universities of Chicago and Oxford. He is particularly known for his work on Marx and the philosophy of religion.
