Synopsis:
This book describes Negley Farson's travels in Russia in 1929. He records the changes enforced on the nomads and peasants he met, and stayed with, by Stalin's policy of collectivism. The author's ability to identify with people from such a different world from his own at an important and tragic phase of Russian history is a distinguishing factor of this book. This edition includes an introduction by Negley's son, Daniel, in which he contributes a memoir of his father.
