Executive search firms, less respectfully known as headhunters, have become a significant factor in the hiring and mobility of executive talent in the past 20 years. Through profiles of top personalities and firms and stories of top level searches, Byrne illustrates who executive searchers are and how they operate. An addendum describes the top ten executive search firms in the United States. The book seems to be based primarily on interviews with principals and is basically reportorial rather than analytic, but Byrne pulls no punches in revealing the tactics and weak points of headhunting.
