TORT LAW
Tort law is simply the technical name for part of the English system of civil liability. To put this differently, when people turn to the legal system for compensation for some injury which they have suffered, the rules for tort law come into effect. Consequently tort law has to accommodate a wide range of situations, some of which may seem relatively mundane. A careless driver, an accident at work, noisy neighbours, are all material for the tort system. I t can be used to correct police malpractices or protect individuals against the power of the press. Campaigners may turn to tort law to prevent environmental damage. To deal with these very different situations, tort law needs to be versatile and to keep pace with changing social needs.
