First Edition
Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Facsimile. Original clear protective cover. Cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks.344 pages clean and tight. The "Naval Who's Who 1917" was originally published in January, 1917 under the title of "The Royal Navy List or Who's Who in the Navy." Uninteresting data and advertising material have been deleted and the text of Admiral Jellicoe's Despatch for the Battle of Jutland has been added, together with a casualty roll of all ranks. Comprehensive services of officers prior to 1914 are contained within this volume but of paramount importance to the collector and researcher of Naval Gallantry Awards will be the "War Supplement" as service details and acts of gallantry are given, which although they may have culminated in an award, did not always appear in the London Gazette. The services of those officers listed in the supplement have been made known through official announcements or special correspondence in the press from the beginning of the war, August 4th, 1914 until December 5th, 1916. Wherever possible London Gazette publication dates of the various actions have been given, whether or not the particular officer's name was mentioned in the despatches. Size: 8vo.
