Original pen and ink, watercolor cartoon of a kangaroo talking to a tree wrapped snake, referring to the joey in her pocket, with monkeys listening in. Signed Freeburn - 35. Mr. D. Freeburn [1874-1947], was a sign painter and cartoonist. He advertised extensively in Popular Mechanics magazine. In the Jan. 1916 issue, he advertises "Trickes of the Trades - Valuable information on Drawing, Lettering. Sign Painting. Illustrated. $1.00. Specimen pages free. D. Freeburn, Hicksville, Ohio." 8.5 x 10.75" on cream card stock, black ink. On verso titled 'Animal Tales', the number 177 and signature of 'D. Freeburn Hicksville, O.' at top. Caption in pencil, lower corners chipped. A sweet and lively cartoon by a talented artist. Seller Inventory # 24799
