Two-inch split along head of spine on front board. Abrasions to parts of leather. Top edge gilt. Fore- and bottom page edges untrimmed. Ex-Libris of Harry Worcester Smith to inside of front board. Decorated endpapers. Sporadic foxing throughout. Tipped-in color frontispiece. Signature of author on verso of half-title. Two original letters pasted-in. 1) Letterhead of â Schloss Matzen Bei Brixlegg (The work was written in this castle).â Tyrol Austria, 25th June 1922. Dear Mr. Worcester Smith, Thank you for all the troubleâ ¦(original signature) of authors wife. Letter was written on typewriter with a few misspellings. 2) Handwritten letter of certification by author tipped-in on verso of frontispiece. â Boxley Abbey, Maidstone. Sept. 6, 1917. I certify herewith that No. 10 of the Edition de Luxe of my â Sport in Art' was purchased by Mr. Harry Worcester Smith of Lordvale (?), North Grafton, Mass. N (?). S. A. I am giving this certificate because I was â ¦? to affix my signature on the flyleaf before dispatching it to W. W.S. (signed, W. A. Baillie-Grohman).â Harry Worcester Smith was an industrialist, machinery inventor and sportsman who was also known as the â Master of the Westmeath Foxhounds.â â An Iconography of Sport during four hundred years from the beginning of the fifteenth to the end of the eighteenth centuries.â Illustrated with 243 reproductions of full-page as well as in-text drawings in b/w & few in color and duo-tone.
