SIGNED by ARNOLD SCHOENBERG. Near fine copy of Special Ed. limited to 50 copies - Second ed. [First ed. also limited ot 50 copies; likely all printed and signed at same time.] Faux leather covers (Leather was not used on either eds.) No jacket as issued. Designed by Merle Armitage, who published a series of books on various subjects, including three composers. This effort includes a series of articles by Arnold Schoenberg and those by contemporaries Roger Sessions, Franz Werfel, Otto Klemperer, Nicholas Slonimsky, Paul Stefan with forward by Leopold Stokowski and photographs by Edward Weston and George Gershwin. Contains all the imprints of Armitage's stylistic design and creative inspiration. Schoenberg moved from Austro-Germany in 1934 eventually settling in southern California accepting positions at UCLA and USC. Armitage, who among other matters, was deeply involved in classical music and opera as promoter and benefactor. It is an exceptionally bright and well-preserved. Minimal cracking to front/back spine gutters however both covers are intact and sound. [All copies have cracked gutters; in many the spine is perished - it is present here.] Gilt devices to cover and spine are also present and bright.
