About this Item
ca 1945. Signed in initials at the drawing, with full signature below in pencil. An original drawing of two sailors viewing nylon stockings, or 'rayons,' in a shop window. Possibly related to the women's protests of 1945, objecting to the U.S. government's regulation of nylon stockings in order to reserve the material for parachutes. In archival matting. Drawn between 1943-1946, when Williams was a contributor to the New Yorker, though he only had seven cartoons published. Williams met E. B. White through his work with the magazine and would go onto to illustrate White's novels Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web. Seller Inventory # BBS-2011249
