Limited Hitchcock Edition library of Somerville and Ross: The Sporting Works, in seven volumes. Published by Derrydale Press, New York, 1927, illustrated throughout in b/w line drawings by Edith Somerville, written by Edith and Martin Ross with an Introduction by the great sportsman, steeplechase racer and Master of the Westmeath Hounds, Harry Worcester Smith. An original set, uniformly numbered 162 out of a run of only 500. Books are covered in dark green cloth and are 9.75 x 6.5? Boards exhibit light shelf wear with a couple surface scratches on one volume and a tiny break in the cloth at the head of another. Spine ends bumped, tips fairly sharp with light color loss. No ownership names, notes or underlining seen. There is occasional foxing present, otherwise texts are remarkably clean, some pages uncut. All hinge papers are fine, page blocks tight and two lively and different drawings illustrate the endpapers. As is common, there is chipping to the very thin black and gilt leather spine labels but gilt work remains bright and labels are legible. Signed by the author/illustrator on half-title page of first volume. Please see photos and ask for more if needed. Includes the following favorites from the Dynamic Victorian Irish Author Duo: E. OE. All in fine condition internally, save for one small chip at lower fore-edge of one page.
