Pictorial tan cloth. Small quarto. 133pp plus 16pp publisher's ads. Second edition, enlarged. Illustrated by W. Heath Robinson. Inscribed by the author. A children's book by William Henry Denham Rouse, a pioneering British teacher known for his "direct method" of teaching Latin and Greek. Rouse was headmaster of the Perse School, Cambridge for 26 years and was known for his plain verse translations of Homer, Aristotle and other authors. The stories are based on the Jataka tales about Buddha's earlier incarnations. A good copy with some rubbing and edgewear to the covers and spine tips. The rear cover has some surface bubbling and a scuff mark to the lower corner. The text is very good with some light soiling and wear. A few of the page margins have some spotting. Scarce.
