Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. San Mateo. Studio of Alec Stern. 1979. Hard Cover. Assumed first edition. Post 10" x 8" [25.4cm x 20cm]. 175 pp. Quarter bound cream spine over textured brown boards with elaborate gilt vignette to the upper board and gilt titles to the cream spine. Neat gift inscription to the front free endpaper and there is also Alec Stern's signature at the bottom without dedication. Many beautiful reproductions of the original drawings, etchings and lithographs by Stern; some in sepia. Stern refers to the prints he obtains by hand printing from his etched copper or zinc plates as 'Original Etchings'- the traditional term. The lithography was produced on an ATF 22 press of the 40's vintage. Text is from the early writings of John Muir, psalmist of the wilderness and Yosemite. Printed on heavy stock this is a lovely book in fine condition. The boards will be protected with a new inert 100 micron archival sleeve which is removable.
