About this Item
8vo. (216 x 157 mm). pp. 18. Title page with dedication verso, Introduction with Harwood's signature in black, contents verso and 13 pages of Tzara's poetry, 'Sources' page at rear. Original publisher's stapled wrappers. Tzara poems translated and signed by Lee Harwood. 'This book is a present for Bob Cobbing.' Poems include 'ambling along', 'strays' (2), 'For Robert Desnos', 'without striking a blow', 'the destroyed days', 'the weight of the world', 'Good Time' and 'full gas' (extract). 'Tzara was not during these year a Communist 'party hack' as Franklin Rosemont (Tzara - '13 poems.' 1969) so stupidly claims. What he was was a truly political writer in the sense that every human act is political. There is no such thing as art for art's sake. The poems here are (underlined) political, and Tzara was (underlined) a Marxist, and one can only be glad of this if it produced such poems affirming our basic goodness and energy, the 'coloured tower' within is. (From Lee Harwood's Introduction). The dedication page states Fulcrum Press were to publish a larger selection of the translations the following year (1972). Seller Inventory # 47683
