This 5.5 x 8.25 inch, 372 page hardcover book with dust wrapper is the apparent First Edition of this title with no date given except the 1954 copyright date on the copyright page. This book is in beautifully fine condition with virtually no time-wear showing to the terracotta cloth covers with the Eagle-and-American procession series embossed on front panel and gilt titling and decoration on the spine. The interior shows endpaper maps - with the authors signature on the half-title page. The following page shows the title of this book at the top of a listing of additional books by the author. The dust wrapper is in very good condition with two pieces missing along the top and bottom edges - and with crinkling along the edges - but overall the wrapper is in solid condition with the $4.50 price shown on the inside flap and the rear panel showing the black-and-white portrait of the author - along with a sketch of her own life. Sandoz has long been recognized as one of the best authors of the Western American experience - having grown up in Nebraska and absorbed the culture and environment of that vast American mid-section. 372 pages.
