About this Item
"Dear Lee, I write to you in regard to a small Fellowship, 100 per ann. which we have at the College here, and Dr. Woodworth, Instructor in Physiology, who some weeks ago wrote an excellent letter to me regarding possibility of work here. The Fellowship, which was until Monday last expected not to be vacant for another year to come, is now known to be no longer required by the present holder, who would if he had wished it certainly have been reelected for a second year. But family matters call him unavoidably away. I am therefore delighted to propose Dr. Woodworth's name for the post, and shall do so at end of this month unless I hear from him to the contrary. I think that you probably know of him, & possibly sufficiently to (should my letter to him miscarry from insufficient address) kindly communicate with him to let him know that I shall be pleased to propose his name, & that in that case he can practically count on receiving the appointment. I am writing to him by this post, & have cabled to him, but am not sure of his address being fully enough. Now I must apologise for troubling you on this. I should like a point further, namely a word from yourself about Dr. Woodworth. With kind regards, I am yours C. Sherrington." Charles S. Sherrington shared the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1932 with with Edgar Adrian for their discoveries regarding the functions of neurons. . Seller Inventory # 8929
