To Cleveland, Ohio based book & autograph collector Frank Pool. Mrs Shaw and I were hoping that we should see more of you. Mr. [John] Lane is an old friend of ours; and I cannot wonder that you are pleased and gratified by your association with such a sincere and ardent lover of books as Mr. Lane. I hope that your connection with him will prove in all senses satisfactory to both. Assuring you of my warm regard, and of my best wishes for your happiness and well-being in the New Year, I remain, Yours very sincerely, W. T. Shaw Frank Jean Pool, Esq. New York." Folded from being mailed, paste spots on back blank page, else near fine. Frank Pool's comment: "Mr Shaw's beautiful old house was in a big garden surrounded by a high wall. His dinners were celebrated and his old Park considered one of the jewels of London. at his table one met Governors of British Colonies and their ladies. Explorers, impecunious painters & writers and also those who had arrived-perhaps with his help." Scarce item. Seller Inventory # ABE-29118907
