Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin on September 28, 1928. That discovery has saved millions of lives, and continues to do so. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945 for this accomplishment. In 1999, Time Magazine named Alexander Fleming as one of the 100 most important people of the 20th century. .
