About this Item
Edouard Branly (1844-1940) was a French physicist and inventor. He is best known for his work in the field of wireless telegraphy. This apologetic autographed letter signed is directed to an unnamed friend or colleague of Branly's. He was apparently invited to a meeting of some kind at 5:00 on a Saturday, but didn't get the message until 7:00, "which was naturally too late." He makes some comments about how busy he is on Mondays, and ends with his "very sincere regrets." Written in French on an 8 1/4" x 10 1/2" full sheet of Branly's letterhead, folded in half. English translation included. Creases from being previously folded into eighths, some pale spots of ink transfer from the opposing halves of the page; generally very good. Previous owner attached a 3/4" x 2" newspaper clipping announcing a stamp with Branly's image to the lower right corner of the back page; it does not interfere with the letter in any way.
