FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. 1971 ERSTAUSGABE. WITH expedition card mailed from Pakistan hand-signed (not printed) by 17 members of the expedition including all 4 summiters: Reinhold Messner (summiter), Günther Messner (summiter), Felix Kuen (summiter), Peter Scholz (summiter), Karl Herrligkoffer (leader), Hans Saler, Günter Kroh, Gerhard Mändl, Michl Anderl, Hermann Kühn, Peter Vogler, Jürgen Winkler, Alice von Hobe, Gerd Baur, Elmar Raab, Wolf Bitterling, Werner Haim. Desirable card because it has been signed by Günther Messner whose signature is a very uncommon. Günther Messner was killed during this expedition in an avalanche after having nearly completed the descent from the summit of Nanga Parbat and after having made the first traverse of Nanga Parbat with Reinhold. The card is in nice condition with minor wear at the corner tips. The name & address of the addressee have been erased in the photo to protect privacy (but the address is completely clear on the actual card). BOOK CONDITION: The book is in nice condition with clean covers, no fading, no rubbing, no soiling, minor crease at spine. First blank page has previous owner name and date penned to top area and a crease mark on the outside edge, all other pages have no marks or writing, no crease marks on any other pages, no foxing, tight binding. The original dust jacket has some light soiling mostly to rear panel, four 1cm tears, rubbing with tiny loss to front outside corner tips. The signed postcard is in nice condition RARE BOOK: most of the examples of the first edition were destroyed by the publisher after Herrligkoffer won a libel suit against Messner regarding this book.
