About this Item
This is a striking tale of adventure and romance centered around King Henry VIII's younger sister Mary, and her forbidden love for a man named Charles Brandon. In 1514, eighteen year old Mary Tudor became Queen of France when she was married against her will to the 52 year old French King Louis XII as part of a peace treaty between England and France. Behind the scenes this story carries the reader through an exciting journey of imprisonment, secret weddings, swordfights, broken promises, disguises, and royal intrigue. First published in 1898, the book was on the bestseller's list for several years and was made into multiple film adaptations including the 1953 Disney film "The Sword and the Rose".
