About this Item
Signed by author on title page of first volume and each sleeve of long playing records. Small Folio. 12 vols. at ca. 500pp, 12 long playing records. Original blue quarter cloth over textured blue wraps with gilt-stamped lettering on cover accompanied by 12 long playing records with red and black printed sleeves. 24 lessons in 12 beautifully designed volumes with 12 long playing 33 rpm records, (approx. 10 hours), to master the art of public speaking and rhetoric by the originator of Mental-Positivism. The text of this long distance learning course is printed in red and black, with different font sizes and typefaces, e.g. Gothic, free hand and what appears to be a specially designed typeface for this title and - considering the corresponding audio long playing records - designed in such a creative way, that it could be perceived as a precursor of interactive media. Each volume contains work plans and exercise material for two lessons. Laid in the original invoice to Alexander Haller in volume one, a typed letter of encouragement in volume 3, signed by Schellbach and a secretary, and an exercise chart for pronunciation in volume 9. Volume 12 contains 3 pages of advertisements for other products of the Schellbach Institute, a follow-up course to Redekunst for special occasions, a course for directors and a third with suggestions for various situations in life. Volume 12 is inscribed "Schellbach im April 1958, Für Thomas" on back endpaper. Text in German. Wrappers with some sunning along edges and small stain on cover of first volume and back cover of second volume. Wrappers in overall good+, interior and long playing records in very good condition. Oscar Schellbach (1901â "1970) founded the institute "Schule des Erfolgs" (School of Success) in Hamburg in 1921. His weekly newspaper "Schellbach-Presse" was published from 1925 with an edition of up to half a million copies. Subsequently he wrote the book "Mein Erfolgssystem" (My system of Success) and released "Seelephonie" in the following year. It was one of the first 'talk records' in the German language. Schellbach was arrested by the Nazis in 1935 but released soon after. In the late 1930ies he began to develop his extensive rhetoric concept "Redekunst von A-Z" which featured breathing techniques, voice exercises and good pronunciation but beyond that provided a complete concept for developing ones personality. One of the prime examples for the success of Schellbach's concept is the Austrian ski coach Baldur Preiml who credits Schellbach's method for the overwhelming success he had with Austria's national ski-team in the mid 1970ies incorporating Schellbach's concept as a main ingredient in his training methods. Nikolaus B. Enkelmann, a known German success and personality development trainer, was the director of the Schellbach Institute from 1974-1978. Seller Inventory # 37182
