McSweeney's Books; (2008). Hard cover. Book condition: Very fine or better; dust jacket condition: very fine or better. No statement of publishing history and no number line; but purchased in April, 2008, at local Borders Bookstore, so undoubtedly a first edition/first printing. 8-3/4" tall, 222 pages; one piece black cloth binding, white lettering on spine; front board has author's name in white, except the "o" is a gold moon with craters, and the center of the front board has a 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" gold "X" with the title in black in the middle of that "X"; solid-colored end pages that have a charcoal-like map on the inside, a slightly different map for front and rear end pages. Book is square, binding tight, corners unbumped; interior clean and unmarked. Jackets (there are three overlapping jackets--brownish/greenish/bluish, see scan below) are clean, crisp, unfaded and undamaged. The original price ("$24") is on a 1-1/8" x 4" paper sticker on the top of the rear board--sticker has 1/8" closed tear. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Signed in broad black felt pen by author at the bottom of title page, with a "true north" arrow added; done in my presence at Saint Louis County (Missouri) Library headquarters on May 3, 2008, after 7 PM reading from "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" (it had recently come out in paper back) and a question & answer session.
