First edition hard back binding in publisher's original black cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back. 8vo. 9½'' x 6¼''. Contains (xiii), 457 pp with maps (one folding) and monochrome archive photographs throughout. Fine condition book in Fine condition price clipped dust wrapper. SIGNED by the Tom Neil to the title page 'Tom Neil, -249 Sqn. 1941 - 1942' + photo corner mounted 6'' x 4'' private colour photograph at his home in Bungay, Suffolk, opposite the title page, loosely inserted letter of provenance. Neil embarked with No. 249 Squadron on HMS Furious on 10 May 1941 and sailed for Gibraltar, and on arrival the squadron transferred to Ark Royal. The squadron flew to Ta' Qali on 21 May to take part in the Battle of Malta and he shot down a Macchi C.200 fighter on 12 June 1941. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection.
